Summer Camp at RAF Leuchars

Four cadets from 340 Squadron and the Officer Commanding deployed to RAF Leuchars near St Andrews in Scotland over the week of 19 - 26 July 2008, where they joined colleagues from around Kent Wing on Summer Camp.

Leuchars is home to the RAF's fleet of Tornado F3 all-weather interceptor aircraft with several aircraft kept on Quick Reaction Alert (QRA), fully armed, ready to scramble in defence of the UK at a moment's notice.

During the week, the cadets flew in the Grob Tutors of 12 Air Experience Flight, the Gazelle helicopters of 3 Flight, Army Air Corps and even the Tornado F3 simulator!

Target shooting, sport, a night exercise, beach activities and visits to the Royal Yacht Britannia and Edinburgh city centre also featured on what was a packed but enjoyable programme.

Congratulations go to Cadet Alex Watts who was awarded the prize for "Best Cadet on Camp". This was a fantastic achievement because it was Alex's first camp, being quite new to the ATC.

Our thanks go to everyone at RAF Leuchars for their hospitality and assistance.

Photos will be in the gallery soon.
