Christmas Gliding | Mon 19th Jan 2009 |
Four cadets from 340 Squadron spent a very cold day gliding at RAF Odiham in Hampshire on Saturday 27 December 2008.
Odiham is home to 618 Volunteer Gliding Squadron (VGS) which flies the Vigilant T1 self-launching motor glider.
The Vigilant, made by Grob in Germany and designated the G109B in the civilian aviation world, is a two-seat aircraft used by the the Air Cadet Organisation to provide Gliding Induction Courses and Gliding Scholarships for cadets.
Each cadet flew three times during the day for approximately 20 minutes on each occasion, learning about the effects of the aircraft controls and how to fly the aircraft in a variety of 'attitudes' (e.g. straight and level, turning etc).
The setting sun at the end of the day put an edge on the already stunning flying conditions - take a look at the photos in the gallery.
Our thanks go to the staff at 618 VGS for an enjoyable day!
