340 Squadron Cadets Are 'Top Guns' | Mon 2nd Mar 2009 |
Ten cadets from 340 Squadron proved themselves to be 'Top Guns' by winning the target shooting event at the Area 2 Decathlon over the weekend of 27 February - 1 March.
The event, which was held at Crowborough Training Camp in Sussex and was attended by all nine squadrons in Kent Wing Area 2, saw two teams of 5 cadets from each unit competing in the following events:
* General and military knowledge quiz * Swimming * Target shooting * Multi-stage fitness test ("bleep test") * Drill * Obstacle course * First aid exercise * Leadership/initiative exercise * Kayaking * Navigation exercise
The target shooting event involved firing 20 shots in groups of 5, at a target 25 yards away with a No.8 (.22 inch) Rifle. The closer to the bullseye a hit was, the higher the cadet scored.
The result was particularly pleasing as we beat teams from three other squadrons who historically have been much stronger at target shooting.
In addition to the target shooting, 340 Squadron also came 2nd in the swimming event.
The whole competition was a great success and was enjoyed by all involved. It also served as good training for the Kent Wing Pentathlon to be held later this year.
Congratulations to the team, who were:
