What We Do

Visits/Camps

Air Cadets regularly visit RAF and other military establishments on day trips and week-long camps to see what our armed forces do, view their equipment and experience a bit of the life of service personnel.

Every Easter and summer, cadets go away on camp to an RAF station. This Easter, 340 Squadron cadets spent a week at RAF Linton-on-Ouse in Yorkshire and in the summer, they are spending a week at RAF Leuchars in Scotland - a front-line Tornado F3 base. As well as visiting the different sections on the station, cadets take part in shooting, sport, flying and gliding, adventure training and social activities such as trips to theme parks and bowling while on camp.

For cadets over 15 who have attended a week-long camp in the UK, there are opportunities to attend overseas camps at Gibraltar, Akrotiri in Cyprus or Rheindahlen in Germany. For cadets aged 17 and above, there is also the opportunity to represent the Air Cadet Organisation, and indeed the United Kingdom, on the International Air Cadet Exchange (IACE) to one of 20 countries around the world. In 2007, Instructor Flight Sergeant Stephen Green from 340 Squadron went to Ghana as part of IACE.

Kent Air Cadets also assist with aircraft marshalling at the world's biggest airshow every year - 'Sun n Fun' in Florida - and 340 Squadron cadets regularly participate in this 3 week trip.

In February 2007, 340 Squadron cadets joined colleagues from all over Kent on a two-day visit to RAF Lyneham, home of the Hercules transport aircraft, and the School of Army Aviation at Middle Wallop, where they viewed the Army Air Corps' Apache attack helicopter.
