What We Do

Promotion

If you display the potential to lead other cadets as you progress through your ATC service, the Commanding Officer may promote you to Cadet Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) rank. From being a cadet, you will be promoted to Corporal, then to Sergeant, Flight Sergeant and finally to Instructor Cadet Warrant Officer.

Promotion isn't guaranteed. You've got to work hard, play hard and get noticed for all the right reasons. Some of the qualities we look for include:

  • Commitment
  • Enthusiasm
  • Teamwork
  • Respect for others
  • High Standards
  • Positive Attitude
  • Integrity
  • Determination
  • Good Communication
  • Discipline

Become an NCO and you are some way to gaining a BTEC First Diploma in Public Services, worth 4 GCSEs at A - C grade!

As an NCO you will assume important responsibilities, will lead cadets junior to yourself and help the Squadron staff to run the unit.

These are the rank slides you might get to wear if you are promoted:

Corporal
Corporal - 2 chevrons

Sergeant
Sergeant - 3 chevrons

Flight Sergeant
Flight Sergeant - 3 chevrons and a crown
